Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be extravagant to feel meaningful. Sometimes, the most special moments are the quiet ones—the ones where you can slow down, breathe, and simply enjoy being with your children. Whether you’re craving a little solitude, connection, or creativity, here are some gentle and joyful ways to spend your day- with your kids!
Slow & Relaxing Start
Okay, so this part can be without the kids. You need some relax time.
Start your morning softly. Let your partner take care of the kids, while you sleep in or spend time relaxing. Maybe coffee or even breakfast in bed if your little ones (with some help) can make it happen. Or head outdoors to your patio/balcony/any outdoor space, wrap yourself in a cozy blanket, and read a book or do whatever you want to enjoy the stillness before the day begins. Even a quiet bath with a candle and your favourite music can feel like a reset—a moment that’s just yours.

Celebrate Motherhood Through Art
Consider creating a physical celebration of motherhood through a work of art! Kids love to make things, and there’s something beautiful about creating a piece of art you can keep forever. Try making a combined artwork—handprints or footprints on canvas, an abstract painting where everyone adds their own colors, or even a simple collage using art they have already created. If you’re worried about the mess, take it outside. Let the fresh air and open space turn it into a relaxed, carefree activity.
I’ve seen a type of photo trend lately, where the entire scene is doing a combined painting or painting a large piece of fabric. Letting everyone get messy and full of paint and snapping away to capture the memories. You can hire a photographer or have your partner take the pictures. There’s always selfies or self-timers, too!

Go On A Picnic
Another lovely way to spend the day is with a picnic. It doesn’t have to be complicated—have your partner make sandwiches, pack snacks, or even pick up your favourite takeout. Find a quiet spot in nature, lay out a blanket, and just be together. While you’re there, ask your partner to take some photos of you with your kids. So often, moms are the ones behind the camera, but these are moments you’ll want to remember yourself in.

Have A DIY Mother’s Day Photoshoot
This is basically my third time bringing this up, so it tells you it’s important (and just plain fun). Whether you do this during the art, during the picnic or as a stand-alone activity. It’s YOUR day. You’re always the one taking all the photos, today you deserve to be IN the photos. And you deserve to have beautiful photos to celebrate your motherhood journey! Whether you hire a photographer or DIY it- either way, these memories will be with you forever.

Relax In The Evening
As the day winds down, keep things easy. Skip the cooking and order your favourite takeout for dinner. Let it be a treat, not a task. Sit together, laugh, and enjoy the simplicity of being surrounded by the people you love.
End the day doing whatever you enjoy- watching a series, a movie, a true crime documentary about a monstrous serial killer, scrolling tiktok or journaling. Whatever it may be, have the perfect end to your perfect day.
Mother’s Day doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to feel like you—a mix of rest, connection, and little pockets of joy woven throughout the day.
