Your baby is turning ONE — and somehow that tiny newborn is now a whole little person with a personality, preferences, and the cutest giggle you’ve ever heard. 🥹
A first birthday is just as much a celebration for you as it is for them. You made it through the first year. The sleepless nights, the milestones, the growth — all of it.
If you’re planning a party and want something magical, fun, or totally unique, here are some of the sweetest first birthday themes — with ideas for decorations, outfits, games, food, and party favours.

✨ Fairy First Birthday
My personal favourite and the one I have chosen for my baby who is about to turn one. I just love the idea of dressing her like a fairy surrounded by mushrooms and butterflies and flowers. It’s going to be magical.
Decorations:
Think soft pastels, butterflies, florals, and twinkle lights. Add mushrooms, fairy wings, and a floral arch for a magical photo backdrop. I plan to hang sheets up with probably homemade paper garland, stars, butterflies, wisteria. I plan to use a faux moss tablecloth with butterfly decorations and mushrooms.
Outfit:
Tulle dresses, flower crowns, or little suspenders with earthy tones for a woodland fairy vibe. I am also adding fairy wings, of course!
Food Ideas:
“Fairy berries,” mini cupcakes, star-shaped sandwiches, and pastel snacks. You can cut sandwiches or fruit into the shapes of butterflies.
Games/Activities:
Bubble station, fairy wand decorating, or a soft play area for little ones.
Party Favours:
Mini fairy wings, flower crowns, or tiny jars of “fairy dust” (glitter + confetti). You can use pipe cleaners to shape bags of candy into butterflies, too!

🍓 Berry First Birthday
Sweet, simple, and adorable.
Decorations:
Strawberries everywhere — red, pink, and gingham patterns. Add baskets and fresh berries for a fresh summer feel.
Outfit:
Strawberry-print outfits or red/pink tones with cute accessories.
Food Ideas:
Strawberries & cream, berry cupcakes, fruit skewers, strawberry milk.

Berry picking (toy version), sensory bins, or a picnic-style setup.

Mini jam jars, berry baskets with treats, or strawberry stickers.

🪿 One Silly Goose
Playful, lighthearted, and perfect for giggles. I view this theme as vintage for some reason.

🎸 First World Tour (Rockstar Theme)
I actually love this theme and almost wish I had heard of it sooner. I have never heard of this theme until recently and I think it’s so fun. You can do so much with it. I think I will need to use this for another year because it’s just too good.
Decorations:
Stage backdrop, microphones, guitars, and bold colors.

Band tees, leather jackets, or sparkly outfits.
Food Ideas:
“Backstage snacks,” cupcakes, and finger foods.
Games/Activities:
Dance floor, mini karaoke, or music corner.

🌞 First Trip Around the Sun
A sentimental and beautiful theme. My first was born close to summer solstice so this kind of theme is always on my mind, but I haven’t used it yet.
Decorations:
Sun, moon, and stars with soft earthy tones or boho vibes. Yellow, bright, sunny things.
Outfit:
Use yellow, orange and bright colours inspired by the beauty and power of the sun.

🐾 Wild One
A classic jungle-themed first birthday OR a Where The Wild Things Are theme. You can go either way with this one.

📚 One for the Books
Perfect for little book lovers. This is another theme I find really cool and a lot could be done with it. I sometimes look up inspiration from weddings which tend to take decor to a whole other level than a typical birthday but it’s inspiring to get really great ideas. I hope to use this theme at some point because it’s so lovely.
Decorations:
Stacked books, soft colors, and cozy reading corners.
Outfit:
Cute, classic outfits or storybook-inspired looks.
Food Ideas:
Cookies, tea-party snacks, and simple finger foods.
Games/Activities:
Storytime, quiet play, and sensory toys.
Party Favours:
Board books or bookmarks.
Final Thoughts
Your baby won’t remember the details — but you will. The photos, the laughter, the tiny cake-covered hands.
Choose a theme that feels right for you and your little one. Keep it simple, meaningful, and full of love.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not about perfection — it’s about celebrating one whole, beautiful year together. 🤍
