Your little wildflower is turning ONE! And what better way to celebrate their special day than with a “Wild One” theme party- with a beautiful wildflower theme. This theme has so much potential to be fill their special day with nature’s best decoration: wildflowers! (And anything wild for that matter).
This post will go over some ideas for decorations, the cake, party favours, activities, and more. I’ve included some images to help give you some visual inspiration, too!

First Up: Decorations
If you’re lucky, your little one’s birthday just happens to fall at a time of year when wildflowers are in bloom. In this case, I would take a walk outdoors and see what you find. You can place bouquets of fresh picked wildflowers in different colourful vases or dishes of any kind and place them on tables. You could also try stringing up flowers using a needle and thread to create a floral garland.

You could hang more flowers upside down from trees, like this:

My son had a different theme for his first birthday but it also involved nature so I used whatever I found growing wild and free to decorate his high chair. I made him a nature crown to wear, too! You could also add a banner to the front of the high chair that says “Wild one” and even set up a backdrop behind it.

Flower crowns can be made or purchased. If you check places like Etsy you can find some beautiful crowns made from dried flowers. To make your own you can buy green wire from a craft store like Michaels and use real flowers or artificial ones. You could also have an activity where people make their own crowns, especially if you’ll have a lot of older children attending the party.

More decoration ideas:
Backdrop: You could create a DIY floral wall by attaching flowers to a sheet or other type of backdrop, hanging floral garlands, or a balloon archway with faux greenery.
Tablescape:
-A floral tablecloth (maybe a vintage one!)
-Vintage vases or different coloured vases filled with wildflowers
-Any type of wild nature items you feel would look good could be incorporated since the theme is “wild one”.
-Floral tablewear- whether it’s something you already own, pick up at a thrift store or you can also find paper products out there with florals and likely even the “wild one” theme right on them!

Oh, oh, the sweetest thing: THE CAKE!
The cakes I found the most beautiful happen to fit this theme! A cake coated in icing- whether it’s white, cream coloured, pink, purple or any pastel colour would work. You then add pressed flowers into the sides and add flowers on the top, too.

For my son’s cake smash I made him a little cake with this inspiration in mind. I used whatever flowers happened to be growing at the time and some other natural elements. The strawberries and baby’s breath were from a store, but the rest were growing in the wild. Here’s how it turned out:

For a drink you could have a pink or purple coloured punch or lemonade, you could make ice cubes with edible flowers frozen into them. You could create any type of flower shaped snack for an extra touch.

Fun wildflower themed activities for little ones
-Flower crown creation for older children. Alternatively you could have a basket of ready-made crowns for people to put on as they arrive at the party.
-Wildflower sensory play. Since this is only a first birthday, the activities should be age-appropriate. How about some sensory play featuring wildflowers or other natural items?

If there are older children at the party some other activities could be:
-Wildflower seed planting.
-Butterfly/bug hunt.
-Natural scavenger hunt.
-Flower arranging activity.
And finally: Party favours!
-Mini pots of flowers to take home.
-Packs of flower seeds to plant at home.
-Handmade play-doh with floral scents.
-Playdoh sensory activity feature flowers.
I hope this gave you some ideas for your little one’s first birthday party and help make it a day that screams “forget-me-not”! (see what I did there?)
Happy planning & happy birthday, little wildflower!
