So, you want to have a cloud party…
Whether you’re doing a Cloud Nine theme party or just want a magical, dreamy birthday vibe- a cloud party theme is a great choice. It’s actually one I have personally done for my son!
I wanted to give my son a cloud party because of a nickname I gave him “little cloud”, so I thought it would be cute! And of course, it was.
A cloud party is a great theme for any age and there’s a lot you can do to create the perfect dreamy party using fluffy decor & rainbow/cloud themed snacks and games for the special birthday child or even adult!

The decorations
The photos above are some of the decorations I did for my son’s Cloud Party. I used the stuffing from an old pillow to create a cloud tablescape and some stars from decor I found at the dollarstore. I found cloud/sky paper at a craft store which I used to make a sign on the front foor and to wrap around a can to use as a vase on the table. I picked up some other rainbow related stuff from the dollarstore like rainbow streamers which you see hanging from the ceiling fan, balloons & more paper to create paper clouds (seen on the patio door) and the 2 sign.

There are also plenty of decorations available online through different sites – such as tableclothes, balloons, plates, napkins, cups, backdrops, and probably more!
If you want a cloud-like flower to decorate with – cotton flowers literally look like clouds! I also definitely recommend using cotton stuffing to create your own clouds! If you don’t shop online and can’t find a lot of cloud specific items, you can always venture into other sky related things like rainbows! They tend to always be available.
You could even do a full dreamy cloud tablescape with cotton clouds and sparkles and little shiny stars & moons throughout. You could create clouds hanging from the ceiling. There’s so much you can do with this theme depending how much work you want to put into it- from easy to elaborate!

The food and snacks
My #1 recommendation for this theme is: BLUE COTTON CANDY. It looks just like a cloud! You can use this to top cupcakes, drinks, desserts, and even include in the party favours bag.
Other cloud-like foods include marshmellows, ice cream, & cloud jello. I made some for my son’s party which you can see pictures above on the bottom left. It’s made with blue jello and cool whip.
You can also put other food into a cloud shape- cookies, sandwiches, or whatever else you might be serving.
Of course, when you run out of cloud-only ideas you always have rainbows! You can arrange vegetable/fruit into a rainbow shape using the colours of the rainbow, for example! (I did this at my son’s party too). There’s a ton of rainbow candy out there you can include in the party favours if you’re doing candy.

The Cake!
For my son’s birthday my mom actually made the cake based on some ideas I sent her. It’s the one in the picture above with the “2” on top. We used blue icing and little marshmellows to create clouds on the sides of the cake. And then on top we used blue cotton candy to make clouds.
You can create clouds with white icing or any edible white candy. You could try a night sky with clouds, a dreamy sunset sky with clouds, and even make the cake inside a rainbow cake!

The Fun & Games
Some ideas for games at the party:
- Pin the rainbow on the cloud
- Find the sun in the clouds (have a big container full of clouds made of cotton or even lots of dish soap to create cloud like soap and have a sun hidden somewhere in it and whoever finds it first wins the prize)
- Cloud hunt (have cotton ball clouds hidden around that they have to find)
- Flying a kite in the clouds
- Looking a shapes in the clouds
- Making a cloud craft out of cotton balls
- Decorate rainbow wands or magic wands to make the clouds go away and the sun come out
- Science experiments: creating rainbow light or clouds
- Bubbles- floating clouds
- Cloud dance party – dance in all the cotton clouds
- Cloud photo backdrop – take silly pictures that look like they are flying in the sky – you could even do this outside on a hill or platform if whoever is taking the pictures does so from a low angle to only get the child(ren) and clouds/sky in the frame.

Party Favours
For the party favours/loot bags you can include any little rainbow toys you can find, rainbow crayons or craft supplies, playdoh, or if you’re doing treats you can add some cotton candy and a rainbow ribbon candy to represent a cloud and a rainbow. You can include a little thank you message. Here are some ideas:
- “Thanks for floating by my party!”
- “I’m on cloud-nine because you came to my party! Thank you!”
- “The sky was brighter with you here – thank you!”
- “You made my party soar- thanks for flying by!”
- “The sky’s the limit with friend’s like you- thanks for coming!”
Bonus section: Cloud Theme Playlist!
